2001: A Mind Odyssey:
Psychiatry and psychoanalysis in film

Over 1,200 people attended the Mind Odyssey three-day film festival at Riverside Studios, Hammersmith and the Arnolfini in Bristol earlier this year.

Director Terry Gilliam, who described the eight film programme as 'a hoot', was unfortunately unable to launch the festival due to filming commitments. However Peter Byrne, Ray Brown, John Owen, Raj Persaud, Brice Pitt and Glenn Roberts took part in the excellent discussion sessions which attracted good numbers and raised interesting and important questions. Anne Dean, Head of Post Graduate Education, who has written extensively on the work of director, David Mamet, took part as expert in contemporary American drama.

Courtesy of Pfizer, the festival included a special screenings of Iris, the Oscar nominated film. These were a sell-out at both venues as they took place two days after the film's general release in London and before its release in Bristol.

Our thanks go to Peter Byrne for designing the popular programme and to all those who took part in the discussion sessions
