Reviews of recommended websites
BBC
This site provides you with up to date news and archives of media
stories generally. You can search easily from the Home Page for any
topic which you are interested in, including mental health and
stigma. This is a very large site with a lot of interesting
features and articles.
American site for the
Centre for Mental Health Services: a new anti-stigma resource
centre. It provides specific resources and information about
evidence-based approaches for people or organisations interested in
combating discrimination and stigma. I didn't find this site as
easy to navigate as some others.
Shift is a five-year
campaign (2004 – 2009) run by the National Institute for Mental
Health in England (NIMHE). It aims to tackle the stigma and
discrimination surrounding mental health issues. “Shift” builds on
the work of the “Mind Out for Mental Health” campaign which ran
from 2001 to 2004 . Several of the links (e.g. on mental health and
employment) take you to the information originally created by Mind
Out. There is a good “media” section with links to the latest
mental health stories on the web, and an excellent “links” section
directing you to other sites with information on specific mental
health problems.

 This is the
World Psychiatric Association's site which outlines their programme
to fight stigma due to schizophrenia. The site is available
in eight languages: German, English, Japanese, Greek, Arabic,
Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
This global programme aims to
increase awareness about schizophrenia and its treatment, improve
public attitudes and generate action to eliminate stigma,
discrimination and prejudice. It has information specifically for
healthcare professionals, families and friends and some personal
stories from all over the world. This site has a lot of text and
may be more relevant for those researching the subject of
stigma.
See Me… Let's stop the stigma of
mental ill health" This is the website of the Scottish anti-stigma
campaign "See Me", run by an alliance of five Scottish mental
health organisations and funded by the Scottish Executive. It
includes downloadable materials, fact-sheets, posters, personal
stories, how to complain to the media, and information about stigma
and discrimination in the workplace.
1 de cada 4
A great Spanish mental health website named after the 1 in 4
statistic that was central to this campaign. It is produced
and backed by the Andulusian government and conctains users real
stories and a wealth of information.
