About the London Division   

Welcome to the London Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The London Division is coterminous with the London NHS Region.  
 
In July 2010, the poplulation of London was 7,825,200 (12.6% of Englands population)  Greater London covers an area of 1,572 sq km (607 sq miles) and is the smallest of Englands nine regions, (1.2% of the total land of England).  London's population is projected to increase by approximately 775,000 by 2016, greatly increasing the pressure of the city's housing stock.
 
London has the highest unemployment rate of any English region, at 12.2%. The national rate is 7.9%. There are more unemployed people in London (over 400,000 claimants) than in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland put together (124,000,125,000 and 28,900 respectively).

There is also the facility to zoom in until you can see cars, buildings and trees! The Royal College of Psychiatrists is situated in Belgrave Square.
 
During 2009/10 there were 12,460 formal admissions under the Mental Health Act 1983 to NHS and private facilities in London. This was 25.2% of the England total. Upwards of 297,000 Class A problem drug users are estimated to live in London.
 
There are currently over 3,000 members of the Royal College of Psychiatrists belonging to the London Division including the whole range of specialists within psychiatry.
