The Economic Downturn and Commissioning of Mental Health Services - a Trent Division Perspective

As part of the Fair Deal for Mental Health campaign, the College is keen to strengthen and extend the engagement of College members, service users and carers in the Divisions with local decision makers to improve mental health services in their region.

 

The first step in this project is a questionnaire for psychiatrists which focuses on the impact of the economic downturn and the local commissioning process. All completed questionnaires would be gratefully received.

News and updates

  • The Trent Division has recently established an 'Images of Psychiatry' prize for the best photo taken by any member of the Division, depicting mental health.  A prize of £25 will be awarded.   Entries should be submitted electronically with an accompanying paragraph of 150-200 words.  All suitable entries will be displayed on the Division's website, in the newsletter and at the Trent Division Annual Meeting.

 

  • The newsletter is published twice a year in January and July.  If you would like to contribute an article, advertise an event or share your views with the membership please contact Nikki or Sue in the Divisional Office.

About the Trent Division

The Trent Division of The Royal College of Psychiatrists covers the following areas: Barnsley, Doncaster, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Derbyshire, South Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Rotherham, Sheffield and the South Humber.

This is a large geographical area stretching from Sheffield in the north, to Leicester in the south, and from the Pennines in the west to the Lincolnshire coast and the Wash in the east. There are three medical schools in the Division at Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester.

 

The Trent Division Executive Committee meets every 3 months at different venues within the region, and an Annual Meeting with a substantial academic content takes place once a year.  The Trent Division CPD Committee meets prior to Executive Committee meetings.  The Annual Meeting is open to all  

Members and Associates of the Division - it has CPD approval and includes various prizes and competitions. The Executive Committee of the Trent Division is particularly keen to encourage CPD and Affiliateship, and fully supports the College in its drive against stigma.
