I'm still feeling upbeat after the hugely
successful RCPsych Awards ceremony on Tuesday - those of you who
attended will know it was a joyful and rightly celebratory event.
The talent, skills and dedication of the short-listed individuals
and the eventual winners were very heartening.
Equally heartening was being part of the
South West Division's Annual Dinner in Bristol last night. It was
great to meet new Members and Fellows, young psychiatrists
just setting out on their consultant careers, as well as
recently-retired members taking on new roles in life. The evening
was full of enthusiasm, innovation, hard work, and honest and open
dialogue.
Yesterday afternoon, I had a very useful
update from Dr Jonathan Richardson about health informatics. It
would see at long last that we are now at a turning point,
whereby systems are beginning to have real utility in ensuring
services can achieve their paramount goal of high quality, safer
services for patients and their carers.
Today, I'm back in London for the Quality
Network for Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
National CAMHS Conference, where I'll be giving the keynote
address. Tomorrow, I'm looking forward to BPPA-BAPA
Annual Conference in Solihull, on the State of the Art of
Psychopharmacology. It is a joint conference between the
British Pakistani Psychiatrists Association and British Arab
Psychiatric Association, and my talk will be on new visions in
working together.
But this evening, I'll be
watching Children in Need, and listening to my grandson
tell me what outfit he wore at school today and how much money they
raised.
