| New Members' Reception |
|
One of my most enjoyable tasks as President
is welcoming new trainees into the family of the College.
On Wednesday 3 October about 250 people,
including our new trainee members and their families, attended the
ceremony held at the Kensington Town Hall in London. Each of the
trainees had to pass an entrance examination to secure membership,
so the event was all about celebrating their success.
I was joined by the Dean, Wendy Burn, and
Registrar, Laurence Mynors-Wallis, to offer our congratulations and
wish them a long and fruitful association with the College.
Listening to the trainees and their
families, what struck me was how wonderfully diverse a group
of doctors they were, with people from Hungary, Spain, New Zealand
and many other countries. I heard of their aspirations to enter the
many different specialities a career in psychiatry allows, their
creativity outside of the day job, and a wish to innovate in their
future roles as leaders at all levels in mental health.
Proud mums, dads, grandparents and children
were able to join in and celebrate on a day which, for me,
reaffirmed the future for psychiatry and the best possible care for
our patients in the future.
