The Council Room 20 - 50
people
The Council Room is beautifully proportioned with three
floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the large mature gardens of
Belgrave Square. The windows lead onto a broad balcony and
is bordered by the ornamental ironwork characteristic of the
Square.
Attractive moldings on the ceiling and walls, original
shutters and paneled doors as well as portraits of the College
Presidents since 1971 give this room formality and grandeur. An
impressive marble fireplace supports a bust of John Conolly,
currently on loan from The Royal College of Physicians, a pioneer
in the sensitive treatment of the mentally ill. Wide double doors
leading to the Library may be opened when both rooms are in
use.
The Council, the College's governing body, meets here four
times a year, under the chairmanship of the current President. The
College and its predecessor bodies have had a Council or managing
committee since the 1850's.
The Dining Room
12 - 60 people
In keeping with the Regency theme throughout the main areas of
17 Belgrave Square, the Dining Room has been thoughtfully
refurbished to re-create the original splendor of the late 1830's
when its first tenant, Sir Ralph Howard, took up residence.
In common with the Members Room next door, to which it is
linked by double doors, the Dining Room boasts a marble fireplace
as a central feature of this imposing room. The bronze bust of an
eminent psychiatrist provides an apt reminder that the premises are
home to the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
A variety of table arrangements in the centre of the room can
seat up to 20 people for dining.
The Members Room
8 - 25 people
This light and airy room, with its original marble fireplace
and antique long case clock, looks out onto the gardens
in the centre of the Square.
Linked to the Dining Room by double doors, the Members Room
provides an ideal venue for small meetings and formal or informal
occasions. A large round table with extension leaves, allows up to
8 people to sit and meet, whilst up to 25 people are ideal for a
reception in this distinguished setting.
The Regency character of the building is skillfully captured
in the colours of the furnishings which create a stylish and
comfortable feel. Specially designed and woven carpets adorn the
wooden floor, whilst the window is handsomely framed by elegant
curtains. The ambiance of the room lends itself to both business
and social gatherings.
The Warren Suite
10 - 30 people
A large room, the Warren Suite is light and airy, with
air-conditioning, and state-of-the-art lighting. Audio-visual
and IT requirements and other demands of 21st century technology
have been met by the installation of facilities for PowerPoint
presentations and teleconferencing.
Dividing doors, made of a light coloured wood that matches the
paneling throughout the room, can be closed to divide the room into
two. The windows look out onto a small area that has been enhanced
by evergreen shrubs and climbing plants.
The Warren Suite is named after Dr. Wilfrid Warren, an eminent
psychiatrist who was the first Treasurer of the Royal College of
Psychiatrists
