Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Three Day Training Course for Nurses

Overview

This short course has been developed in collaboration between the Royal College of Psychiatrists ECT Accreditation Service (ECTAS) and the National Association of Lead Nurses in ECT (NALNECT) in response to feedback from ECT nurses regarding the lack of national post registration provision of training in this specialist area of practice.This course is the equivalent of 3 study days.

 

Aims

The course will provide nurses with the knowledge, skills and expertise to carry out all duties and responsibilities for ECT in accordance with:

 

  • The Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines and the ECT Accreditation Service Standards for the Administration of ECT
  • The Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Anaesthetists guidelines
  • The NICE guidelines
  • The Royal College of Nursing guidance for nurses

 

Delgates will be expected to develop knowledge and skills and initiate and share good practice in relation to ECT.
