The Examinations Unit is part of the
Professional Standards Department and
it is responsible for the organisation of the College’s
written and clinical MRCPsych Examinations. Membership of the
College is the accepted qualification for entry into higher
training in psychiatry. Preliminary enquiries from trainees who are
interested in pursuing a career in psychiatry should be directed to
the Training Section of the Professional Standards Department.
The Examinations Operations Manager and written paper team are
responsible for the MRCPsych Papers 1, 2 and 3.
The Examinations Co-ordinator (CASC) and clinical team are
responsible for the Clinical Assessment of Skills &
Competencies examinations (CASCs).
The teams are responsible for processing candidate enquiries,
applications, entry and allocation to examination centres and
publication of final results.
The Unit is also responsible for the
recruitment, induction and training of College examiners.
Continuous Examiner training sessions are held. The
CASC Organisation Manager is responsible for all Examiner/ CASC
centre administration.
The question papers for the Examinations are
prepared by the Panels responsible for each paper. All results
are monitored by the Examinations Sub-Committee. Regular reports
are presented to the Education, Training and Standards Committee to
ensure that standards are maintained.
In addition the Monitoring Panel meets twice a
year and is concerned with reviewing all aspects of the MRCPsych
Examination and the external influences which have an effect upon
its provision and development.
