Number of attemps

Removal of the limit on the number of attempts allowed for the MRCPSYCH Part I and Part II examination

The limit on the number of attempts that candidates can make at the MRCPsych Part I has been removed by decision of the Court of Electors. Any candidate who can satisfy the eligibility requirements for entry to the examination, as specified in the Regulations, will therefore be allowed to do so. This includes those candidates previously deemed as Final Fail candidates. No further Final Fail notifications will now be issued.

There is no restriction to access to the examination based upon the time which has elapsed since the last attempt at the examination.

However:

Pre-1987 candidates

Pre-1987 candidates who had previously passed the Preliminary examination but failed to complete the full qualification are required to pass the current Part I MRCPsych before being able to proceed to Part II.

Over eight years since last attempt

If a Final Fail candidate's last attempt at the MRCPsych examination was over eight years before their first re-entry attempt, on resuming the examination they will be required to pass the current Part I before being able to proceed to Part II.
