Dr Laurence Mynors-Wallis has been elected
Registrar of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He starts his
5-year term of office this evening, at the College’s AGM, which is
part of the 2010 International Congress in Edinburgh.
Dr Mynors-Wallis is a consultant general adult
psychiatrist and medical director at Dorset HealthCare NHS
Foundation Trust, and honorary senior lecturer at the University of
Southampton Department of Psychiatry. He has been the College’s
Associate Dean leading on revalidation for the last 3 years.
Dr Mynors-Wallis said: “I’m delighted to be
elected Registrar, a role which I see as providing leadership for
psychiatrists and working closely with all our Members throughout
the UK.
“I have set myself 3 initial priorities,
reflecting the needs of psychiatrists at a time of increasing
financial pressures: increasing the support available to College
members; reinforcing the role of psychiatrists as leaders within
their teams and organisations; and increasing the number of
enthusiastic young doctors choosing psychiatry as a career.”
