College members involvement in relief efforts are invited to share their experience on line

College members and other mental health professionals who are actively involved in the relief work in South Asia are invited to share their experiences here. If you wish to submit a brief report of your activities, difficulties you encountered and successes you achieved please contact the International Affairs Officer by email.

• Dr Shanthy Parameswaran and Dr Harriet Calvert   
  Visited Jaffna and Trincomalee in Sri Lanka to provide intensive training for counsellors who work with children and adolescents in the aftermath of the tsunami.

 

• Dr Rathnam Viswanathan’s report from Chennai, India  
  Dr Viswanathan went to Chennai as a volunteer with Madras Christian Council for Social Services in March 2005. He is now looking for volunteers prepared to provide CTB training in India.

 

• Prof R N Mohan outlines his recent activities in Sri Lanka Prof Mohan, chair of the South Asian Psychiatrists Forum, writes to Father Jeyakumar, director of HUDEC – a well known charity which is part of CARITAS International of worldwide catholic churches  
  HUDEC is the rehabilitation arm of Northern Catholic church and works under the Bishop of Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

 

• Prof David Alexander visits Sri Lanka  
  Since the Piper Alpha disaster in July 1988, Prof Alexander has been extensively involved with major trauma, including transportation disasters, military combat and terrorist incidents.
