Electoral Register
Your personal information is held on the
electoral register. It is compulsory to be included in the full
electoral register, which has restrictions upon its use.
However, there is also an edited electoral register which can be
purchased by any individual or company. Unless you have opted
out, your home address is included in the edited electoral
register.
Please click
here for further information on your personal information and
the electoral register.
You are able to opt out of the edited
electoral register by ticking a box on the electoral registration
form that is sent to you each year. Alternatively, you can
contact your Electoral Registration Officer to opt out at any
time. To do this, go to http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/
and enter in your postcode- the address contact details will then
appear on the right hand side of the page under the heading Your
Electoral Registration Office.
Do you want to opt out of the 118 800
mobile phone directory?
A new commercial service, called 118 800 and
operated by a company called Connectivity, operates as a directory
service for mobile phones. Users submit a search on a name and a
town; if a result is found, the person they are searching for
receives a text message inviting them to call the searcher. This
service is currently available online (http://www.118800.co.uk/) and in
addition is due to be launched as a service available directly from
mobiles.
College members may be concerned about the
security implications, or simply not wish to be included. The
company offers a web form to allow you to remove your phone number
from their list: http://www.118800.co.uk/removeme/remove-me.html.
