It was agreed by the South West Division
Executive Committee that because of all the changes to the NHS
it would be advantageous to set up a South West Mental Health
Alliance.
The aim was to form an alliance of
stakeholders to ensure provision of best possible mental health and
learning disability services in the southwest.
94 people attended the launch event on the
17th June. The day was organised to bring
interested parties to talk and hear about setting up an Alliance in
the South West to be at the forefront of ensuring the future of
good mental health and learning disability services in a changing
NHS.
With stimulating speakers and lively
discussion groups the day was thought provoking and culminated in a
group discussion of how to form the new alliance, its role and aims
for the future.
It was unanimously agreed that we should form
a region wide organisation possibly linking in with the emerging
NHS structures including managed clinical networks.
A small working group is now set up to take
this initiative into the next stage.
