We are excited to announce the upcoming conference of the African Association of Psychiatrists and Allied Professionals in Accra, Ghana, from 26 to 28 June, 2008. The conference is being organized in collaboration with the World Federation of Mental Health, World Psychiatric Association and Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.  This is the 3^rd AAPAP conference since 2006 with the 1^st conference being held in Ethiopia and last years event was held in Kenya. 

 

The theme of the conference is ‘Mental Health and Social Change’. This theme reflects the need to recognize the social changes that Africa is going through with there attendant mental health needs.  These changes include; the aging population and the population increase that transition from traditional to modern society, drug abuse and violence, breakdown in traditional values and cultural practices, streetism, teenage pregnancy, child and sex abuse, conflict migration and urbanization.  Human rights abuse of the mentally ill and proliferation of traditional and faith based healers are some of the associated issues of social change.  This conference intends to address some of these issues so far as they affect or border on our mental health. 

 

Distinguished personalities slated to attend or address various aspects and parts of the conference include Prof. John Copeland, President of the World Federation of Mental Health, Prof. Norman Sartorius, past President of WPA and other eminent personalities. . It is expected to be opened by His Excellency President J.A. Kuffour.

You are kindly and warmly invited to share knowledge and experiences with colleagues from all over Africa and beyond, and to promote mental health in Africa. PHILOSOPHY, PSYCHIATRY, PSYCHOLOGY International Conference

26 - 30 August 2007, Sun City South Africa

The 10th International Conference on Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Psychology, will be held at South Africa's Sun City, known as Africa's Kingdom of pleasure, on the verge of a 55 000 hectare game reserve.

 

The theme of the conference is: "Hypotheses, Neuroscience and Real Persons". Philosophers, psychiatrists, psychologist and other health care practitioners all use hypotheses in research and in practice.
