Psychiatrists' Support Service
Support Service is a free, confidential support and advice service
for psychiatrists at all stages of their career who find themselves
in difficulty or in need of support. The service is available
during office hours Monday to Friday.

enquiry will go straight to the support service manager.
Depending on the circumstances, you
will be put in touch with one of our trained doctor advisers, who
will be a psychiatrist and College member, who will be able to talk

- The Psychiatrists Support Service
is confidential. However, if you disclose an issue that threatens
personal or professional safety, the Royal College of Psychiatrists
has a professional duty of care to report this to the appropriate
- The service welcomes the first
contact by e-mail as well as by telephone. However any subsequent
support will be provided by telephone only.
- The telephone number is a
dedicated number for contacting the Psychiatrists' Support Service.
So your call does not need to go through the main College
switchboard. · Doctor advisors will not be based in the same
geographical area as the caller.
- The service is sometimes contacted
by doctors who are concerned about a colleague. The support service
manager will need to speak to the person concerned to be able to
offer appropriate advice and support.
- The service is available in office
hours Monday to Friday however follow up calls with doctor advisors
can be arranged outside of this time.
