The MRCPsych examination and New Chief
Examiner

The Chief Examiner, Professor Anthony Bateman,
finished his term of office recently. I would like to thank him for
his hard work in post. I am pleased to announce that his
replacement is Dr Peter Bowie. He will be working with me on
various enhancements to the examination (see below).
Some of you will know the College has recently
made a surplus from the examination fees. The College has always
stated that it does not set out to make a profit from examinations
and this appears to have come about from an underestimate of the
number of candidates. At a recent Council meeting it was agreed
that examination fees for next year will be frozen with a 15%
reduction for Affiliates and trainees registered with the
College.
The issue of what should be done with the
money from the examinations needs thought. One suggestion is to use
it to develop an online revision course for MRCPsych.
Dual training
Since Modernising Medical Careers was
implemented in August 2007, the issue of whether trainees can
undertake training in 2 CCTs, or dual training has been
unclear. The GMC has now clarified that
trainees wishing to undertake training for 2 CCTs may do so
provided they follow these guidelines.
Associate-Dean for
Equivalence
Professor Tony Rao has ended his term of
office as Associate-Dean for Equivalence. I would like to thank him
for all his hard work and the changes he introduced. Dr Helen Bruce
has now taken on this role.
Our guest speaker is Sir John Temple who will
be giving an update on his report “Time for Training”. I hope to
see many of you there. If you have any issues you wish to discuss
with me
please contact me”.
