million for innovative solutions to tackle healthcare problems
The Department of Health has opened
two new competitions with up to £2 million of funding each to
develop technological and innovative solutions that can: (a) change
people’s behaviour in order to reduce the impact of obesity and
alcohol related diseases, and (b) improve the number of patients
taking their medication as prescribed..
Alcohol industry sheds a billion units to cut hospital admissions
and 1000 deaths
A billion units of alcohol will be shed by the
alcohol industry through a plan to help customers drink within
guidelines.
The initiative, part of the Responsibility Deal, is being
spearheaded by 34 companies and will see a greater choice of lower
strength alcohol products and smaller measures by 2015.
Publication of adult social care outcomes framework
The
Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (ASCOF) has been
updated for 2012-13. The document describes the principles for the
way in which the ASCOF should be used, and its relationship with
local outcome measurement, sets out the detail for each of the
domains in the ASCOF and outlines details of the next steps for
future development of the outcomes-based approach and improvements
to the ASCOF over coming years.
Report
raises issues about Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
The Care Quality Commission has published a report
showing that the NHS needs better awareness of when and how to
apply the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
for patients.
Launch of drugs and
alcohol recovery Payment by Results pilot
The drug strategy 2010 set out to
explore how Payment by Results might incentivise the sector to
deliver on recovery outcomes. Eight
pilot areas in England have launched new payment by results
models to test the PbR approach. The pilots will run for two years
and will be independently evaluated.
