The SIG conducts considerable liaison and information work for the College. For example, Michael King (immediate past Chair of the Group) was invited onto a Special Interest Group on Gay and Lesbian Mental Health at the National Institute for Mental Health England. 

This is an active group that provides information on lesbian and gay issues for NIMHE - the current issue is gay and lesbian issues in youth suicide. 

The group has recently expanded to bring in all health issues on LGB health and will work in liaison with the Department of Health. 

The arrival of the new National Director for Equality and Human Rights (Surinder Sharma) in 2004 provided an opportunity for the Department of Health to take stock of its strategy and approach on equality, sexual orientation and gender identity. This group will feed directly into that strategy.
