Communicating with members

Wednesday, 25 April

I am always trying to find better ways of communicating directly with members. I want to gather your on-the-ground knowledge, intelligence and concerns to best support you all in what are – and will continue to be – difficult times.

To this end, I do have an open door policy – if individual members want to talk with me directly they can. Many of you write to me, and I endeavour to address your concerns or, better still, utilise your creative solutions to challenging situations and share them with other members.

The major channel of two-way information exchange is via our Council, especially through those Council members who are Chairs of Faculties, Divisions and Sections. I stay in regular contact with the Chairs of RCPsych in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales so we can track how differing policies are impacting on service delivery across the UK and how, more often than not, UK-wide economic restraint is leading to similar endpoints in each country.

The monthly eNewsletter reaches out to many members, and we keep you updated on policy and parliamentary activities through the website. And the most immediate way for me to communicate with you is via this blog, which I’ve been writing since becoming President. I also plan to start updating you all with a brief summary of the outcome of our Council meetings, with action points.

If you as members can think of other ways to improve my communication with you, then please let me know.

Sue
