Meeting with the Samaritans

Thursday, 8 December 2011

A brief update for you today about a meeting I had yesterday morning with Samaritans. We met to discuss current and future priorities and how we might work together on suicide prevention, at both national and local level, particularly in the context of the new structures for Public Health and Health and Well Being Boards.

We are already involved in Samaritans’ Call to Action campaign, and we are considering how we can support their forthcoming work on confidentiality issues and the work of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Suicide and Self-harm Prevention, for which Samaritans provides secretariat assistance. We will also be finding out more about how some psychiatrists are providing advice and support to their local Samaritans branches.
