Awards 2011

Clinical Excellence Awards

College procedures in the preparation of ACCEA nominations for England and Wales

Anyone considering applying for an Award should read ACCEA’s Awards Procedures which can be viewed at:

www.advisorybodies.doh.gov.uk/accea

The College’s Clinical Excellence Awards Committee (CEAC) consists of Honorary Officers (President, Dean, Registrar, Editor and Treasurer), representatives, selected by the Executive Committees of Faculties, Division and Sections and a lay observer.

The Chair of ACCEA has emphasized the need for the Divisions to play a central role in the nominating process.  Faculties and Sections, therefore, begin the College process by preparing their ranked lists.  They send these lists to the Divisions who use them in their nomination process.  Individual Faculty, Section and Division lists are then submitted to the College’s Awards Administrator to be considered at the College meeting in November/December (see timetable below).

The Faculties, Sections, Divisions and College committee will use ACCEA’s five domains in determining their ranked lists.  These domains are:

  • Delivering a high quality service
  • Developing a high quality service
  • Managing a high quality service
  • Research and innovation
  • Teaching and training

How to be nominated for an award

College Members who wish to be considered for an Award should submit their ACCEA CVQ electronically to Sue Duncan, Awards Administrator by 5.00 pm, on Monday 26 July.  As ACCEA’s CVQ forms are not usually available by our deadline, the College will accept 2007/2008 local or national forms.  The cover sheet must also be completed identifying your Faculty or Section, Division and the award you are applying for.

Bronze and Silver applicants may choose to submit ONE of the following options:

  • Research
  • Management
  • Teaching/Training

Gold applicants may choose to submit up to TWO of these options.

Members should be aware that it is their responsibility and not the College’s to ensure that they complete the CVQ form on ACCEA’s website and submit it by their closing date, which is usually in December.  Members should also be aware that Trust support is not a pre-requisite for College support.

Awards timetable

February

Details of process appear on the College website.  Members are asked to submit CVQs and the College’s cover sheet electronically to the College’s Awards Administrator.

July

All forms must be received at the College by the stated closing date of 26 July.  Any forms received after the date will not be considered.

By mid-September

Faculties and Sections hold meeting of Executive Committee to consider and rank nominations.  Faculties and Sections send ranked nomination lists to the College Awards Administrator who will forward them to the relevant Divisions.

By mid-October

Divisions hold meetings of Executive Committee to consider their nominations.  The ranked lists from the Faculties and Sections will be taken into account.  Nomination lists will be forwarded to the College.

November

The College meeting takes place.  Committee members are circulated with the CVQs of all nominees.  They are asked to rank them using ACCEA’s five domains.  These marking sheets are returned to the College Awards Administrator.

Silver/Gold Applications

An overall ranked list is prepared by the College Secretariat and the top 15 names are automatically included on the final list.  The next 15 nominations are discussed and scored at the meeting and the top five to seven names are added to the final list.

Bronze Applications

The system will be the same as for Silver/Gold applications, but the top 30 are automatically included on the final list.  The next 20 nominations are discussed and scored at the meeting and the top five to ten names are added to the final list.

The above numbers may change from year to year.

November

Members whose names are included on the College shortlist will be informed and advised to submit their CVQ to ACCEA if they have not already done so.  The College Awards Administrator will submit the final shortlist, together with the College citations, to the Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards.

Citations

The College sends ONE citation on behalf of each nominee submitted to ACCEA.  Citations must be drafted specifically for the College and must not be written by a colleague from the same institution.  They must also focus on international or national rather than local achievements.  The closing date for receiving citations is Monday 15 November.
