Betty Blue is a translation from
Philippe Djian's book, "37.2 Degrees In The Morning".
A book I found hard to put down. A narrative of a story of a
relationship between a handyman (Zorg) working in France and a
young woman who is beautiful, wild and unpredictable. The plot
centres on mental illness, a destructive relationship, and
obsession. Betty encourages Zorg to write, she makes it her
mission in life to type every hand-written page and get a work
published, but it is rejected which makes Betty fly into a rage.
Betty's wild manners soon start to get out of control. As the
story progresses, Betty's mental illness becomes more apparent, she
lives in a manic world of passionate highs and lows.
Ultimately doomed, the author depicts her slow and very real
descent into her own tragedy.
A fantastic book which creates a real feeling for the characters
and understanding of the emotions involved in their love. This book
has: laughter, tears, romance and emotions, an unforgettable
read.
