One in three people with a serious mental health problem are in
debt. This booklet provides practical advice for health workers on
dealing with this issue. It doesn't expect health workers to become
debt experts, but describes the big differences that they can make

Materials for parents, teachers and young people
Changing Minds: CD-ROM is
designed to raise awareness of mental health problems in young
people aged 13-17 years. Intended for use by teachers as part of
the PSHE curriculum (Personal and Social Health Education and
Citizenship – key stages 3 and 4), it provides creative teaching
ideas for lessons. It includes interviews with young people on
their views and experiences of mental health problems, videos and
audi clips, cartoons, music and quizzes. It address six main areas
of concern for young people and teachers: addictions, stress,
eating disorders, depression, schizophrenia and self-harm.

Mental Health and Growing Up factsheets (third
edition): series of 36 factsheets, mainly for parents and
teachers, providing practical and up-to-date information on mental
health problems (emotional, behavioural and psychiatric) that can
affect children and young people. Some factsheets have been written
especially for young people.

Stigma DVD: contains 2 films in one:
'Stigma' (9 min film) explores the origins and nature of mental
illness and how it affects us all. Directed and narrated by
Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Mark Salter. "You can judge a
civilization by the way that it treats its mentall ill".
'1 in 4' (2 min film) was developed as part of the College's
anti-stigma campaign. Aimed mainly at young adults between 15 and
25, this outstanding film uses some disturbing images to challenge
our perceptions about mental health.

Materials for professionals
Being seen and heard: the needs of children of parents
with mental illness is a multimedia training package
(video and CD-ROM) for professionals working with adults with
mental illness. It was developed, written and produced by Dr. Alan
Cooklin, and focuses on the needs of young people who have to care
for a family member. It provides creative and practical suggestions
about working with parents with mental illness and their
children.

Student career booklet

This career booklet is aimed at medical students who are
interested in a career in psychiatry. It offers information on the
various specialties, examinations and the College, as well as
