Policy Unit Profile

The Policy Unit

The Policy Unit is part of the Department of Communications and Policy and is located at the College headquarters in London. Working with College members and the College Policy Committees, the Unit is responsible for the development and delivery of College policy to the membership and the external environment.

We produce position statements and policy briefings for members and external organisers. We maintain an up to date library of policy documents and assist with College reports. We work with the Divisions, Faculties, Sections and Special Interest Groups to take forward specific policy and research projects. We also submit consultation responses to government, parliament and other bodies on behalf of the College. We work collaboratively with many other mental health organisations and allied charities.

Our work is informed by the eight priorities set out in the College’s Fair Deal manifesto. Human rights, and mental health and disability discrimination legislation are also within out remit.

The Unit is involved in Public Affairs, and develops relationships with MPs and Peers to influence relevant legislation in parliament. We aim to raise the profile of the College and achieve change through the parliamentary processes in accordance with College policies.

Working with the Registar of the College, Dr Laurence Mynors-Wallis, the Policy Unit reports to the three College Policy Committees and the Westminster Parliamentary Liaison Committee.
