RCPsych comment on the Club Drug Clinic at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

Dr Emma Whicher, a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Addictions Faculty, said: "The College welcomes the launch of the Club Drug Clinic. Evidence suggests that patterns of drug use in the UK are changing, particularly in younger groups. A new group of substances, known as club drugs, are increasing in popularity. This group includes established drugs such as ecstasy, ketamine and powder cocaine but also newer substances including mephedrone, GHB/GBL and legal highs.

"Relatively little is known about the potential risks of these new substances and this is of concern to professionals working in the field. This new clinic presents an opportunity to learn more about the new drugs and help develop effective treatments."
