  • Regular e-newsletters produced by the Student Associates and the Psychiatric Trainees Committee (PTC).
  • Opportunity for two Student Associates to be co-opted on to the PTC.
  • A free annual conference specifically for undergraduates.
  • Psychiatry elective opportunities.
  • Information on medical student bursaries and prizes.
  • A 10% discount on RCPsych publications.
  • Electronic subscription to the British Journal of Psychiatry and Psychiatric Bulletin.

Professor Rob Howard, Dean of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be launching the Student Associate grade. We hope that this new associateship will introduce undergraduates to the fascinating and rewarding world that psychiatrists are lucky enough to work in, as well as show them more about the life of our College and its membership.”

Dr Clare Oakley, Chair of the College’s PTC, said: “The PTC is really looking forward to sharing our experiences of training in psychiatry with the new Student Associates. We want medical students to know how stimulating and interesting a career in psychiatry is.”

Medical students are also invited to join the new Royal College of Psychiatrists group on Facebook. The page will be used to post details of College competitions, conferences and electives. Medical student interest groups can also use the discussion board to share information about their local seminars and events.
