Looking at the Assessment of Sex Offenders (DVD)
Produced by David Reiss
This educational DVD has been designed to be part of the
training of professionals who work with sex offenders. The DVD
contains demonstrations of clinical interviews, with experienced
mental health staff as the interviewers and actors, experienced in
working with sex offenders, playing the role of the offenders
themselves. The interview material is supported by a discussion
group of experienced psychologists and psychiatrists, who highlight
aspects of good practice in professional work with sex offenders
during the assessment process.
The DVD has been designed so that it can be used on a
standalone basis or, by using the scene selection facility, as
supporting material for other educational programmes. It is
designed to be suitable for both individual study and viewing in a
group.
The film is of interest to both forensic psychiatrists
and psychologists who already work with sex offenders and those who
do not, in addition, it is suitable for other mental health
professionals including social workers and nurses. It also has
great relevance for probation officers and other professionals who
work within the criminal justice system.
“An excellent teaching aid that brings the clinical techniques
and context of assessment to life in a way that cannot be matched
in a book. …A very watchable, informative and real discussion of
the issues in assessment of sex offenders, focussing particularly
on clinical technique and problem-solving. I would have no
hesitation in recommending it to beginners and experienced
practitioners alike.”
