A Comprehensive guide to training and assessment in the UK
for trainees and local educational providers.
This guide has been written to provide an overview
of postgraduate training in psychiatry. It is intended to outline
the process of training for a doctor in training in psychiatry and
so assist them in meeting the requirements of the Curriculum.
It is also intended to be of value and to offer guidance to those
involved in the training of such doctors at all levels and so it
will be relevant to Educational Supervisors, tutors, Programme
Directors, and heads of school.
The guide describes the standards for psychiatric training that the
Royal College of Psychiatrists recommends, and so the guide may be
used to support the Quality Assurance of psychiatric training. It
is not intended to cover every detail and aspect of training but it
sets out standards as they apply across all psychiatric
training.
Please note this document replaces OP65: Postgraduate Training
in Psychiatry: Essential Information for Trainees and
Trainers. The version available to download above was
updated in January 2010.
