Changes for 2012 to

Advances in Psychiatric Treatment and CPD Online for members

From 1 January 2012, various changes to the following products will affect RCPsych members. This page explains the changes and answers your potential questions.

CPD Online Advances in Psychiatric Treatment journal

Changes to CPD Online

  1. RCPsych members' rate decreases to £45
The price of an annual subscription to CPD Online for College members will be just £45 (+VAT) from January 2012.
This is a substantial saving compared with the current 2011 rate of £76 (+VAT).

  2. CPD hours allowed increases to 25
The number of external hours for which CPD Online may be used and put towards your continuing professional development (CPD) requirements increases to 25 hours (for the UK).

I already have a member subscription to CPD Online which is valid for some months into 2012.  Won't I miss out on the reduced rate?

Any subscriptions (whether new or renewals) starting in September 2011, or later, will have a sliding scale of discount applied to them to take into account the change of rate for 2012 so that you will not miss out.

Any subscriptions that were taken before this were sold in good faith, before the price changes were confirmed, so we regret these cannot be changed.

I currently have the 'Subscriber to Advances' rate for CPD Online.  What happens to that?

For RCPsych members, the reduced 'Subscriber to Advances' rate will become obsolete in 2012, since £45 (+VAT) is cheaper than the 2012 Advances-subscriber rate (£59+VAT) anyhow.  Your renewal will automatically convert to the new member rate.

I pay for my CPD Online subscription by Direct Debit.  Do I need to do anything?

No.  Members' renewals will automatically be charged at the new lower 2012 members' rate.

I want to take out a subscription to CPD Online.  What do I do?

To subscribe please contact: Subscriptions Dept, Maney Publishing, Suite 1C, Joseph’s Well, Hanover Walk, LEEDS LS3 1AB, UK. Tel: +44 (0)113 386 8168. Fax: +44 (0)113 386 8178. Email: subscriptions@maney.co.uk or subscribe online: http://maney.co.uk/cpdo

Changes to Advances in Psychiatric Treatment

  1. Access to Advances online will be free to members
From January 2012, RCPsych members will have free access to the full text of Advances online, as an extra benefit of their College membership.

  2. Reduced members' price for print
For members who prefer the print version, the members' discount for this increases so the 2012 rate will go down to £50.
(A large saving compared with the non-member rate of £140.)

(2012 member rates: £50 for UK/Europe, $93 for North America, £58 for rest of world.)

How do members get their online access to Advances?

  • If you already view the British Journal of Psychiatry and The Psychiatrist online, from January 2012 you should also automatically gain access to the full text of Advances (at http://apt.rcpsych.org), once you have logged in with your usual BJPsych username and password.
  • (If not, you may need to ‘activate’ - you need your membership number for this - at:
    www.rcpsych.org/cgi/activate/basic?ORIGJOURNAL=bjp)

I am having problems accessing Advances online.  What do I do?

  • First, ensure you have activated your access, as mentioned above - go to this page for more info on activation.
  • Please note: the online journals do not use the same username and password as for viewing the College website’s members-only secure area – unless you have chosen for them to be the same.
  • If you know you have activated in the past but cannot remember the username and password you chose (and for any further difficulties), please call the Membership Dept on 020 7235 2351 x6281, or email: onlinejournals@rcpsych.ac.uk
  • If you are still having problems please contact the Membership Dept at the College, or email: onlinejournals@rcpsych.ac.uk

What happens to the existing member-rate subscription for the online-only version of Advances that I pay for?

This will not be renewed and will cease to exist in 2012, because you are able to get automatic access to the online version as a member.  If you currently pay for this by Direct Debit no payments will be taken.  You do not need to do anything.

What happens to my existing member-rate subscription for the print version of Advances?

The price will automatically be dropped to the lower 2012 rate, as detailed in your renewal letter (these will be sent out in September 2011).

I pay for my print subscription by Direct Debit.  Do I need to do anything?
