'Activation' is the process whereby you identify yourself to the
online-journals system. The process is slightly different if you
are a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, an Individual
(non-member) Subscriber or an Institutional Subscriber. Please
choose from the following for appropriate activation
instructions:
RCPsych members Activation Instructions
You will need your membership number for the activation
process.
- Go to http://www.rcpsych.org/cgi/activate/basic?ORIGJOURNAL=bjp
- Enter your College membership number in the box asking for your
'customer number' and click the ‘Submit’ button.

Complete the online form giving your
email address and setting a username and password for future
access.
After you have completed this process you will receive an
email confirmation. You will then be able to access the full text
content of the BJP, The
Psychiatrist and Advances using your username
and password (set during activation) to 'sign-in'.
Once RCPsych members have activated their online access to
BJP, they will automatically also be able to
access The Psychiatrist and
Advances online.
Individual Subscriber Activation Instructions
You will need to know your customer number (a six digit
number prefixed by the letter "C"). This should be shown on the
address sheet of paper accompanying your journal(s).
- Go to http://www.rcpsych.org/cgi/activate/basic?ORIGJOURNAL=bjp
- Enter your Customer number in the box and click the ‘Submit’
button.

Complete the online form giving your
email address and setting a username and password for future
access.
After you have completed this process you will receive an
email confirmation. You will then be able to access the full text
content of the journal to which you have subscribed, using your
username and password (set during activation) to 'sign-in'.

Institutional Subscriber Activation Instructions
Institutional subscriptions should only be activated by the
Institution's account administrator. Before activating your
subscription please make sure you know your customer number
(6-digit number prefixed by 'C') and the IP* addresses for your
institution.
- To activate your institutional subscription go to:
http://www.rcpsych.org/cgi/activate/ibasic?ORIGJOURNAL=bjp
and enter your customer number.
- As account administrator you will need to provide your contact
information (name, title, institution name, e-mail address and
telephone contact).
- The second phase requires that you enter the IP number(s) of
all the institution's workstations that should have access to the
journals. (Institutional subscriptions provide on-line access via
IP validation, not user name/password.)
You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your on-line
subscription activation. If you have made a mistake when entering
your details, the system will prompt you to re-enter your
details.
If the IP address form is not filled in by the administrator,
workstations at the institution will NOT have on-line access.
You only need to activate your subscription once. If you have
subscriptions to any combination of BJP, The
Psychiatrist, and Advances, you will activate
all of your subscriptions together.
Athens Users
As long as your institution has a current subscription to the
material requested, access is available using your Athens username
and password. Contact your library if you do not have an Athens
username and password or if your library does not subscribe to the
material you are seeking.
