Information about the second round
(2012)
Structure of the audit
The audit will consist of 2 modules:
- Hospital organisational
checklist: This module will look at
the structures, policies, care processes and key staff that impact
on service planning and provision for care of people with dementia
within a general hospital.
- Casenote audit: In this module,
hospitals identify the records of a minimum of 40 patients with a
diagnosis or current history of dementia, which will
be audited against a checklist of standards that relate to
their admission, assessment, care planning/delivery, and
discharge.
Participating in the second
round
The second round of audit is a repeat
of the casenote and organisational audit from the first round to
look at progress hospitals made between both cycles. Therefore,
criteria for participation is the same as the first round: open to
all general acute hospitals, or those providing general acute
services on more than one ward, in England and Wales.
Data Collection
Data collection for the second round is
anticipated to begin in April 2012 and be completed by September
2012.
When will results be published?
Hospitals who submit data for the audit
will receive a local report with data from their hospitals compared
to amalgamated data from all hospitals in February 2013. For those
hospitals that participated in the first round, their local reports
will also present data from the first round of audit to allow
comparison. The national report for the second round of audit will
be published in June 2013.
