Ideas for studies

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Surveillance System (CAPSS)

Ideas for studies – new applications welcomed

CAPSS can be used to survey a wide range of rare but important disorders and events in the CAMHS field. The Executive has identified some key topics that are of particular clinical, policy and academic interest. These are listed below. New applications relating to them will be welcomed, although of course we are keen to receive applications for other studies.

  • Substance dependence in under-16 year olds
  • Severe criminal behaviour in pre-adolescents
  • Auto-immune disorders and severe child psychopathology (could include iatrogenic immunological deficiency states)
  • Early onset OCD
  • Dangerous but unusual adverse effects of drugs, e.g. in response to concerns/suspicions that a particular drug might be causing problems
  • Poor outcomes of care, e.g. suicide or self harm
  • Failures of care, e.g. under-16 year old admissions to adult wards; failed transitions to adult services.
