Courses for 2014

  • Transition to the Consultant Role - 26 November - Registration leaflet
Coombe Lodge, Blagdon, North Somerset, BS40 7RE
This course has been set up to help advanced trainees who are preparing to take on their first consultant role and consultants who have been appointed in the last 5 years. It seeks to address the common anxieties experienced by the majority of doctors moving into this role. Participants will be able to share and explore their experiences in a safe environment and learn from other doctors who have roles in medical education and management and some who are going through this transition.
This course, developed by Dr Rob Macpherson, will include speakers from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, a leading regional psychotherapist, a Medical Director, and Clinical Director. A newly appointed consultant will be sharing ‘what they should have known’ to focus on the early pitfalls that can occur, and a trainee will present their perspective.
Everyone involved will bring a great deal of expertise to this exciting and informative day.
The course has been adapted to provide two workshops which all delegates will attend, addressing working with management and dealing with adverse events.
We are now closed for online registrations.  If you would like to attend, please call the Division Office on 01761 463979

  • Retired Doctors Programme for 2014
Holiday Inn (Bristol Airport), Redhill, North Somerset, BS40 5RB
  • The South West Division has put together half day courses in 2014 specifically to meet the needs of retired or resting psychiatrists. We are aware that retired psychiatrists can feel isolated and bewildered especially by the prospects of revalidation. Many find jobs within organisations that can help e.g. SOADs in the CQC, but others are with no particular parent organisation. To give guidance and assist in the “careers” of retirees Dr Paul Divall and Dr Angela Rouncefield, Leads for the events, hope to welcome you to these half day events, which are open to any psychiatrist who has retired from their substantive NHS post (you do not have to meet the College’s requirements for reduced fees) providing you attend 2 of the 3 biannual meetings from Autumn 2013 to Autumn 2014.

There will be a nominal charge for each event to cover lunch and administrative charges.

The final topic and date in 2014 is:

    15 December, 10:00 – 14:30       Risk Assessment Update - Registration leaflet

Risk Assessment Update for Retired and Resting Psychiatrists

The topics have been chosen to reflect what we believe to be the mainstream needs of psychiatrists who continue to offer help and advice, or are involved in activities such as Section 12 work. Each meeting will include a short update on revalidation, especially to hear members’ experiences and to share good or helpful practice.

  • If you wish to attend you can book by completing the application leaflet attached to each event and send in with your cheque, pay by credit or debit card by contacting the office or book using the online facility above .
