South West Division Training (SWDT)
The Division, through SWDT, provides high quality postgraduate
education for the personal development and continuing professional
development of psychiatrists in the region.
The following events are considered suitable for CPD subject to
the agreement of the individual's peer group.
SWDT EVENTS IN 2015 - 16
- Retired Doctors Programme for 2015 - See our
Retired Doctors page
- The South West Division put
together four half day courses in 2014 specifically to meet the
needs of retired or resting psychiatrists and we will be running
further events during 2015.
The topics will reflect what we believe to be the mainstream
needs of psychiatrists who continue to offer help and advice, or
are involved in activities such as Section 12 work. Each meeting
will include a short update on revalidation, especially to hear
members’ experiences and to share good or helpful practice.
- Supervision: beyond the ticked box
6 October 2015 - Coombe Lodge, Blagdon, North Somerset,
The hour a week of protected
supervision time is an institution in psychiatric training. Once
you've filled in all the forms that the trust, the college and the
deanery shower you with, what do you talk about?
Dr Guy Undrill has put together this excellent course, which is
relevant to Senior Clinicians who are currently giving regular
supervision and ST6 doctors who are not yet supervisors.
The course will use a mixture of didactic teaching, small group
discussion and practice exercises.

EVENTS BY OTHER ORGANISATIONS
The following are meetings that may be
of interest to our Members in the South West Division:
- The Visible Woman
10 July 2015 - Creech St Michael Village Hall,
This event is of special interest to
women who are involved in their communities and people who are
interested in the work of these women. The focus is celebrating the
contribution that women are making to communities and giving women
the chance to tell us about that work. Funded by the Skills
Funding Agency. Hear about what other women are doing in
communities and tell us what you are doing.

- Mindfulness for Doctors: A
3-day Experiential Weekend
17 - 19 July 2015, The Ammerdown Centre, Radstock,
Medicine is a stressful profession,
especially in the current climate of accelerated change. Doctors
are expected to provide first class care to patients at all times,
but how do we take care of ourselves? Come and think about this
mindfully and learn how to practice mindfulness in a calm and
relaxed setting. There will be time to talk, walk, reflect and
meditate in beautiful countryside and in good company. All
