Summary of Meetings:

July 2010:

At its meeting on 9th July, the IAC  welcomed Dr Riadh Abed, as Chair of the Iraq Sub Committee, to the committee and co-opted Dr Sab Bhaumik to the committee to act as a lead on international training issues. The IAC also co-opted the Chairs of BAPA, BIPA, BPPA and SLCP UK to the committee for a period of one year. The IAC approved the establishment of MoUs with the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Thailand, the Brazilian Association of Psychiatry and the Sir Lanka College of Psychiatrists. The IAC also agreed to investigate how it could work with the European Commission to move towards the unification of psychiatric associations in Europe.

April 2010:

At its third meeting, the IAC discussed College representation on the UEMS board and agreed on how it would respond with requests for assistance in Sierra Leone and Haiti. The President gave feedback from his meetings with NIMHANS and the EPA and briefed the committee on the meeting that he was hosting for leaders from the psychiatric association of Europe at the end of April 2010. This meeting would showcase the work of the College and would encourage dialogue between the international associations that were attending.

January 2010:

The second meeting of the IAC took place on 29 January 2010. At this meeting it was agreed that Dr Ben Baig, Professor Nick Bouras and Dr Peter Hughes would become co-opted members of the committee. The committee agreed to establish guidlelines for setting up MoUs with international organisations and to publicise the volunteer programme more systematically in the International Divisions.

September 2009:

The first meeting of the International Advisory Committee took place on 30 September 2009. The IAC, which is Chaired by the President and replaces the Board of International Affairs, is the new committee that will be responsible for the College’s international initiatives and activities.  The aim is to mainstream the College’s numerous international activities. The meeting set out the College’s international priorities which included support for International Members through the International Divisions, training and examination initiatives, the volunteers programme and liaison with international organisations. The IAC also confirmed its continuing commitment to supporting the work of the Iraq Sub Committee.

July 2009:

At its meeting in July 2009 the Central Executive Committee agreed to disband the Board of International Affairs (BIA) and its sub-committees. The BIA would be replaced by a new streamlined committee, the International Advisory Committee (IAC), which is Chaired by the President, Professor Dinesh Bhugra.
