Report 2008
The following is a summary of the Division's activities
during the year 2008.
- Organization of the Middle East Session at
the Annual Meeting in London, June 2008, in which speakers from
several Middle Eastern centers presented and participated.
- Facilitating and encouraging the attendance
of trainees from the Middle East at the Annual Meeting of the
College, one of the accredited sites (the Behman Hospital),
sponsored one trainee from Egypt to attend the Annual Meeting this
year, which proved to be a very fruitful exercise in terms of
broadening their experience, and increasing their exposure to
psychiatry in a different culture, and at the International
level.
- Dr. Nasser Loza, as Chair of the Middle East
Division, has attended the Meeting of The Board of International
Affairs.
- Organizing a meeting for Psychiatrists from
Egypt and currently practicing in the UK in June 2008, at Belgrave
Square, with the purpose of exchanging views on how best to plan
mutually beneficial exchange of experience, training and expertise.
Organizing a dinner gathering for UK practicing psychiatrists from
the Middle East, following the above meeting.
- Encouraging trainees to apply for bursary to
attend the Annual Meeting of the College in June 2008, which
resulted in the successful application of one trainee from Cairo,
who attended the meeting, and was able to benefit from a quick
glimpse on UK and International Psychiatry, and brought back home
many useful and enlightening impressions, which he shared with his
colleagues in Cairo.
- Contacting interested speakers from the
region to contribute to the Middle East Division session at the
Annual Meeting – Liverpool 2009 on the topic of "Psychiatric
services for refugees in the region".
