Report from Faculty day event on Leadership in Addictions PsychiatryThe Addictions Faculty ran a day event on Leadership in Addictions Psychiatry on 2 February 2011. The day was oversubscribed, and feedback has been that it was very useful. 

 

Presentations from the speakers:

  • Dr Owen Bowden-Jones (Chair, Addictions Faculty) - overview of the current context of addictions psychiatry and the aims of the event.
  • Professor Dinesh Bhugra (President, RCPsych) – presentation on leadership and the role of the psychiatrist.
  • Professor Colin Drummond (IoP/SCAN) on key issues and opportunities on alcohol, and how addictions psychiatrists can respond.
  • Mr Paul Hayes (NTA) on the NTA’s perspective on leadership and professionalism in addictions in the current environment.
  • Professor John Strang (National Addictions Centre) on leadership and the role of the psychiatrist, and the UKDPC consensus group.
  • Dr Eilish Gilvarry (Northern Regional D & A Services) on how to lead in addictions psychiatry in practice, from team level to national level.
  • Dr Emily Finch (Chair, Roles & Responsibilities project) on roles/responsibilities of addictions doctors.
