About the Faculty of the Psychiatry of Learning Disability

Faculty of the psychiatry of learning disability

Aims of the Faculty

The Faculty aims to actively engage its nearly 900 members in expanding knowledge about the psychiatry of learning disability and in the development of policy that promotes the well-being of people with learning disabilities. To achieve this the organisation of the Faculty is as follows:

Academic activity

In addition to the Faculty contribution to the College annual conference, the Faculty holds a day conference each spring and a residential conference each autumn. These aim to be both informative and enjoyable and the residential conference includes a dinner and entertainment. Well over a hundred people routinely attend these meetings.

Strategic objectives 2011 - 2012

This document summarises the Faculty’s main strategic objectives for the coming year that were agreed at the Executive meeting in July 2011.

Communication with membership

The members of the Executive Committee communicate with the Faculty membership through the Newsletter, Website and the Business meetings that are held at each Faculty conference. In addition the lead for the sub-groups and working parties often arrange consultation workshops with the membership at conferences. The Regional Representatives should arrange to meet regularly with the members in their area. They also have an annual joint meeting with the Executive Committee and attend the annual Strategic Planning away day. Direct individual approaches from members of the Faculty to their Regional Representative or Executive Committee members are always welcome.
