How liaison psychiatry services can transform quality and productivity in acute settings

This Mental Health Network Briefing looks at opportunities to improve quality and efficiency in acute services by focusing on the needs of the significant number of patients who also have mental health problems complicating their care and discharge.

It sets out some good practice examples together with academic evidence to build a business case for liaison psychiatry services

Service Development

These notes are written by liaison psychiatrists with a range of experience in establishing liaison services in different hospitals in the hope that they will help future consultants negotiate some of the difficult problems which will face them following their appointment. The notes should be read in conjunction with the "Model job description for consultant in liaison psychiatry" which is available to in print form from the College or from the officers of the Liaison Psychiatry Faculty.
