Education, Training and
Standards Committee
Role: The Education, Training and
Standards Committee is the most senior educational committee
within the College, and has overall responsibility for the
formulation and ratification of educational policy.
The Education and Training Standards Committee is responsible
for all aspects of the education and training of psychiatrists at
each stage of their careers, including the monitoring of standards
of training at both basic specialist and higher specialist level,
overseeing the MRCPsych Examinations, formulating policy regarding
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and determining who is
elected as an Inceptor, Affiliate, Member or Fellow of the College.
. Its responsibilities are therefore heavy and wide-ranging and
have increased substantially in recent years with the advent of the
Specialist Training Authority and the Postgraduate Medical
Education and Training Board, the introduction of Certificates of
Completion of Specialist Training (CCSTs) and the growing
importance of CPD as part of the College’s strategy of lifelong
learning.
The Committee also ratifies the award of College prizes,
endorses lists of Regional Advisers and Representatives, Examiners,
and Assessors who participate in Advisory Appointments Committees,
and receives the minutes of all educational committees within the
College, including the Specialist Training Committee, CPD
Committee, Overseas Doctors Training Committee and Examinations
Sub-Committee.

Overseas Doctors Training
Committee
Role: This committee is charged with all
aspects of training of overseas doctors and the College's recently
revised regulations for the Consultant Assisted Sponsorship Scheme
(CASS). In addition the ODTC is responsible for assessing
applications and issuing Statements of Eligibility for Higher
Training in the UK.

Standards Committee, a representative from the Collegiate Trainees
Committee and seven other members elected from the membership.

Continuing Professional Development
(CPD) Committee
Role: This committee's principal tasks are to
formulate policy regarding CPD, co-ordinate, facilitate and develop
the CPD activities which are already provided by the College, and
to assist members to take advantage of these and many other
opportunities that are occurring locally. Additionally, the
Committee assists with certification, the formation and
establishment of peer groups and any other CPD matter which cannot
be dealt with locally.

Fellowship
Sub-Committee
Role: The FSC considers nominations for the
Fellowship (for both UK and overseas candidates). It makes
recommendations to the Education and Training Standards Committee
for election to and registration in these categories.

Regional Advisers and their
Deputies
Role: Meetings of Regional Advisers and their
Deputies are intended as opportunities for an exchange of
information to take place between the RAs and their Deputies and
College Officers.

Role: Responsible for reviewing the results for
the MRCPsych Examinations; approving the question papers;
monitoring standards; policy issues.
