Special Committee on Ethnic Issues
This Committee was set up following the Report
of the Ethnic Issues Project Group (CR92). It focused on
carrying forward the recommendations set out in CR92 relating to
psychiatric training, the need for awareness of issues concerning
the use of mental health legislation, access to services, and
dialogue with relevant user groups, and also included regular
monitoring of MRCPsych examination results, College election
results, and nominations for distinction awards.
The recommendations of CR92 formed the basis
of the College's Race Equality Statement of Intent, and Race
Equality Scheme, which were developed by the Committee in
conjunction with the University of Central Lancashire's Centre for
Ethnicity and Health. The Committee also played a key role in
the sytematic review of College Structures.
The Special Committee on Ethnic Issues was disbanded at the
College AGM in July 2008. The work of the Committee has now
been mainstreamed into all aspects of College activity.
Responsibility for oversight of equality and diversity within
College work now rests with Dr Ola Junaid, Associate
Registrar. Contact rdaw@rcpsych.ac.uk
