The course will describe the key aspects of
the doctor’s role in relation to DoLS (formerly known as the
Bournewood proposals), which will implemented from Spring 2009.
This training will establish your role as an Assessor in relation
to DoLS, and the overall position of DoLS in relation to mental
health legislation.
Content includes mental health, mental
capacity and eligibility assessments; advance decisions; the roles
of the Best Interests Assessor and the Independent Mental Capacity
Advocate; lasting powers of attorney and the role of the Court of
Protection, and appropriate use of either detention under the
Mental Health Act or a DoLS Authorisation under the Mental Capacity
Act.
