Introduction

The aim of this course is to understand the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) through using a user friendly CBT assessment model, the Five Areas Approach. This model of training has a proven evidence based approach as an effective treatment for patients experiencing depression. Resource handouts will be provided for you to cascade this training (under licence) in your own team and to copy for use with patients. These newly acquired skills can be used by you and your team on a daily basis. It will promote shared working across a multi disciplinary team by encouraging a consistent approach to shared understanding and problem focused engagement.

 

Course Aims

After you have attended this course you should be able to apply these new skills to:

 

  • Identify unhelpful thoughts
  • Change unhelpful thoughts
  • Identify and explain problems/behaviours
  • Identify and explain the impact of reduced activity
  • Plan increased activity
  • Fix problems using problem solving approach

 

This course is eligible for 5 CPD hours subject to your peer group approval.
