About the Course

The Mental Health Act amendments of 2007 include some significant changes to the legal framework for the compulsory care and treatment of mentally disordered patients in England and Wales. It has introduced a number of new roles and allows a broader range of professionals to carry out functions under the Act.

Our national series of Approval Training Courses for Approved Clinicians is delivered by a multi disciplinary team of trainers with extensive clinical experience and knowledge, including advisors to the Department of Health. The Centre for Advanced Learning and Conferences has undertaken a key role in the Department of Health’s National Advisory Group for Approved Clinician Training. Designed to enable eligible mental health professionals to gain approval to act as Approved Clinicians, the course fulfils all relevant training requirements.

This course is eligible for 12 CPD hours subject to your peer group approval.

Learning Objectives

The course will provide an understanding of:

  • the main provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 as amended

  • the role, responsibilities and functions of the Approved Clinician
