Overview

The First–tier Tribunal (Mental Health), more commonly referred to as Mental Health Tribunals, hears applications and references for people detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended by the Mental Health Act 2007) or living in the community following the making of a conditional discharge, or a community treatment or guardianship order.

 

In the context of Mental Health Tribunals, the course is designed to enable participants to understand the purpose and content of the clinician’s report; increase participants knowledge of the law in relation to tribunals; and familiarise participants with the tribunal process.

 

This course is eligible for 4 CPD hours subject to your peer group approval.

 

Course Aims

At the end of the day participants will have:

 

  • increased their knowledge of the ways tribunals operate;
  • increased their knowledge of the statutory frameworks and rules within which tribunals operate;
  • enhanced their skills to deal with report writing for tribunals;
  • enhanced their skills for giving evidence at tribunals; and
  • generally enhanced their effectiveness in the tribunal setting.
