Overview
This interactive workshop will explore
ways to identify trainees in difficulty, how to analyse the
problems and what courses of action are open. Particular attention
will be given to difficulties arising from attitudinal and mental
health problems, and to difficulties that are compounded by a
trainee’s lack of insight and self-awareness. This course is
eligible for 6 CPD hours subject to your peer
group approval.
After you have attended this session
you should be able to:
- Recognise the purpose of, and effectively
carry out, assessment and appraisal
- Summarise the sources of difficulty and
areas of potential dysfunction that might be encountered with a
trainee
- Select and use appropriate methods for
detecting and analysing difficulties
- Engage with a trainee regarding their
difficulties
- Form an appropriate management plan for a
trainee in difficulty
- Monitor a trainee’s progress
