The effect of comorbidity on the treatment of ADHD:
ADHD and learning disability

Stimulants are effective in patients with ADHD and mild learning sabilities and appear to be fairly well tolerated in this group. However those with more severe levels of learning disability (e.g. IQ < 45) may respond less well and have more frequent side-effects. Stimulants are however not contraindicated in this group and a trial of medication may be given.
