Mediating factors in the treatment of ADHD:
The effect of gender on treatment

Although most studies have concentrated on boys, there are no clear gender differences in the effects of stimulant medications in children with ADHD. Gender issues alone, therefore, should not influence the decision to prescribe. There is much less information on gender differences in response to other medications used for ADHD and while again, no clear gender effects on response have been published, further information is required before a clear judgement can be made.
