HoNOS 65+ Glossary
Changes April 2002

From v2 to v3

  1. Scale 2 Non-accidental self-injury. The use of the word "risk" is emphasised to apply only to the reference period, and not future risk.
  2. Scale 3 Substance misuse. The consequences examples under score 4 are removed- consequences are to be rated on appropriate scale (e.g. liver damage on Scale 5).
  3. Scale 4 Cognitive Problems. All language problems are now rated here, except for physical difficulties speaking, such as after dental work - the latter is rated under Scale 5
  4. Scale 5 Physical Problems. This specifically states that pain must be of mainly physical origin to be rated here
  5. Scale 7 Depressive Symptoms. It is made clearer that the rating of the "somatic symptoms" (sleep, appetite, weight loss) of depression should use Scale 5 rather than Scale 7.
  6. Scale 8 Other Mental & Behavioural Problems. "F) Somatoform" specifically mentions pain of psychological origin.
  7. Scale 10 Activities of Daily Living . The word "deficit" is substituted for "decline" to make sure that ratings of state during the reference period are comparable at different times.
  8. Scale 12 Work and Leisure Activities. The issue of how much benefit activities might produce has been deleted from the rating.
