My understanding of the process of
psychological change towards mental health is that it is based on
the concept of integration, that is, the recovery of projected or
split off parts of the personality. I have used a rather simple
idea of a piece of jigsaw missing from the self which is then
replaced to symbolise this notion of a recovery of a projected and
split off part of the self.
This psychoanalytic version of the
notion of recovery carries within it a developmental process
through regression, to a need for concrete containment towards more
symbolic and psychological forms of emotional containment which
employ the process of being held in mind and beginning to hold
oneself in mind that I have alluded to earlier.
